Kevin J. Kuhn, D.V.M
Dr. Kevin Kuhn is the owner and Hospital Director of Afton Animal Hospital. He joined Afton in 1994 and has been an active member of the Greater Buffalo pet loving community.
Dr. Kuhn is a native of Western New York. His ancestors moved from Germany to Buffalo in 1844 and have lived in the area since that time. Dr. Kuhn enjoys researching his local family history which includes two Buffalo area Kuhn breweries, involvement in the Pan-American Exposition of 1901, Maggie Kuhn, founder of the Gray Panthers, Robert Kuhn, cartoonist and designer Buffalo Bison's Buster and Bob Kuhn, wildlife artist.
In 1979, Dr. Kuhn moved to Sedona, Arizona and graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Microbiology. He graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and practiced small animal medicine and surgery in the Phoenix area for three years before returning home to Buffalo.
Since joining Afton Animal Hospital in 1994, Dr. Kuhn implemented a cooperative effort with the Town of Amherst to install scooper bags in the Town parks. He has developed and instructed Pet First Aid and Caring for your Aging Pet classes at Afton Animal Hospital, the Williamsville Community Education program, the University of Buffalo Mini Vet School and the Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross.
In 2004, Dr. Kuhn and his staff built the first dedicated Canine Physical Rehabilitation facility in New York State including an indoor pool for therapy and recreational swim, underwater treadmill system, therapeutic laser and other equipment useful in the care of dogs in need. He is certified in canine rehabilitation (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner, C.C.R.P.)
Dr. Kuhn serves as the Administrator of the Veterinary Emergency Clinic and is a member of the Western New York Veterinary Medical Association, Niagara Frontier Veterinary Medical Society, Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine, American Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and the Veterinary Information Network (VIN). He is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in New York, Arizona and California.
Outside of practice, Dr. Kuhn enjoys camping, wine tasting, Victory motorcycles, photograpy, travel and scouting new things to do in Western New York.
